Bomba Estéreo brings electro-Colombian beats to IMU in Sept. 15 Hancher performance

Bomba Estéreo may not be a household name, but the band received some high-profile exposure when its music was featured in an episode of Showtime's "Dexter" and when the band's song "Fuego" appeared on the FIFA 10 Soundtrack. The University of Iowa's Hancher will present the Colombian band on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 9 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union. The event is a partnership with UI student organization SCOPE Productions.

Bomba Estéreo merges electronic dub and hip-hop with traditional Afro-Columbian rhythms to create its upbeat, danceable music. The band is a favorite at festivals, including SXSW and Denmark's prestigious Roskilde Festival. NPR featured a full live performance by the band on its website.

Tickets for the concert are $25; college student $10; senior citizen $22.50; youth $10 from the Hancher Box Office or the IMU Box Office.

The Hancher Box Office, located on the first floor of the south end of the Old Capitol Town Center near the parking ramp, is open for phone (319-335-1160 or 800-HANCHER) or walk-up business from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Tickets may be ordered online at Any remaining tickets will be available for sale one hour before show time at the IMU.

Support for the event comes from the Hancher Partners.
