Media Advisory: UI Arts Share, REACH Program to host dance workshop Oct. 8
WHAT: A two-hour dance workshop, which is a collaboration between the University of Iowa College of Education's Realizing Education and Career Hopes (REACH) Program and the Arts Share Program, will provide university students with intellectual and learning disabilities an opportunity to work side-by-side with other university students to engage in different styles of dance. Students will learn the basic movements of dance styles, including traditional group line dances and hip-hop. This is the second of three workshops being held for REACH this fall through this new partnership. The third workshop, theatre improvisation, will be held Nov. 20.
WHO: Students from the College of Education's REACH Program are invited. UI Arts Share is sponsoring the event. Arts Share seeks to enhance the quality of life by introducing people to the arts. This partnership allows REACH students to explore new interests and express themselves through different art mediums.
WHEN: The event is being held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.
WHERE: Grey Studio in Halsey Hall on the UI Campus.
WHY: The event is intended to provide REACH students an opportunity to explore different types of dance such as hip-hop and line dance. REACH continues to build partnerships with campus resources to provide students with unique experiences. Students will be able to explore different types of dance movement and styles of dance, as well as participate in social dance opportunities.
