May 11, 2011

Media Advisory: UI, Iowa City, Coralville officials to make 'shovel ready' announcement Friday

WHAT: University of Iowa Vice President for Research and Economic Development Jordan Cohen, Coralville City Administrator Kelly Hayworth and Iowa City Area Development Group President Joe Raso will speak about the second property to be certified in the Iowa Shovel Ready program at the UI Research Park.

WHERE: BioVentures Center, UI Research Park, 2500 Crosspark Road, Coralville, Iowa

WHEN: About 9:15 a.m. Friday, May 13

WHY: Multiple sites on the UI Research Campus will be certified as Shovel Ready in the "Technology Center" category. These facilities typically include office and laboratory space that support research and development activities. Activities in these facilities are conducted by scientists, researchers and technicians working to discover information that is technological in nature. Iowa Shovel Ready sites offer rapid turn-around for companies when constructing a new business because the property is already prepped and utilities installed. The Shovel Ready Iowa Certification is an independent, third-party certification program designed to reduce risk for local communities and property owners as well as companies researching the seven county Corridor Alliance region for business location or expansion. For more information on the first certification program in the state of Iowa, visit Speakers will be available after the certification ceremony.
