MFA exhibition is on view in Market-Dubuque Display Space through May 14

An exhibition of works by recent recipients of the Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History is on display at the Market-Dubuque Display Space, 122 E. Market St., through Saturday, May 14. Market-Dubuque Display hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

A reception to celebrate the closing of the exhibition and honor the MFA graduate artists will be held at the space from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 13. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

The MFA exhibition occurs annually to display the thesis works of all students who graduated in the past year from the UI School of Art and Art History MFA program.

This year's exhibition will include works by graduate artists representing the School of Art and Art History's studio areas of ceramics, design, metalsmithing, intermedia, painting, photography and printmaking.

"Each piece in the exhibition is the product of long-term creative imagination, struggle and perseverance in which aesthetic vision is melded with technical accomplishment," said John Beldon Scott, director of the School of Art and Art History. "Taken as a whole the body of work presented in the exhibition indicates the dynamic range of creative effort of the School of Art and Art History's most advanced studio students as they prepare to launch their professional careers."

The exhibition is sponsored by the School of Art and Art History in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
