Media Advisory: Iowa Flood Center to unveil Des Moines flood inundation maps March 23

WHAT: The Iowa Flood Center, based at the University of Iowa, will hold a news conference to unveil and demonstrate its new, online flood maps designed to help Des Moines area residents and businesses better prepare for and anticipate how future flood levels might affect their homes and property.

WHEN: Wednesday, March 23, from 9 to 10 a.m.

WHERE: Room 116, Iowa State Capitol Building, Des Moines.

WHO: The program participants will include:

--Larry Weber, director of IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering, University of Iowa, introduction.
--Senator Matt McCoy, on the importance of the maps from a statewide perspective.
--Witold Krajewski, director, Iowa Flood Center, University of Iowa, demonstrating the Des Moines flood inundation maps.
--Bill Stowe, director, Des Moines Public Works, on the importance of the maps from the community perspective.

In addition, all program participants -- as well as Nathan Young, associate director, Iowa Flood Center and lead investigator on the development of floodplain maps -- will be available for interview following a question-and-answer session.
