Radiothon raises $223,159 for UI Children's Hospital
STAR 102.5 KSTZ-FM of Des Moines raised $223,159 for University of Iowa Children's Hospital during its 13th annual radiothon May 26-27 that was broadcast live from UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Proceeds from the radiothon benefit UI Children's Hospital through Children's Miracle Network. Radio personalities Big Ken and Colleen hosted the broadcast that began at 5 a.m. Thursday, May 26 and ended at 6 p.m. Friday, May 27. Big Ken and Colleen shared the stories of patients and their families who receive care at UI Children's Hospital.
Open house at Beckwith Boathouse set for June 4
As part of National Learn to Row Day, Hawkeye Community Rowing is hosting an open house 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 4 at the P. Sue Beckwith, M.D., Boathouse in Terrell Mill Park, 1209 North Dubuque St. in Iowa City.
During the free open house, visitors can tour the Beckwith Boathouse and take a free one-hour rowing class, try a rowing machine, see different types of rowing and adaptive rowing equipment. Attendees can also sit in a rowing shell and hold an oar, use two connected rowing machines and learn how to get involved with Hawkeye Community Rowing.

Children's Miracle Network telethon funds research to aid Iowa children
The annual Children's Miracle Network Celebration will be aired statewide by Mediacom Communications June 4 and 5. The broadcast will offer viewers an up-close look at the life-saving work done at Children's Miracle Network hospitals and the Iowa families who have benefited from these services.
University of Iowa Children's Hospital is Iowa's designated Children's Miracle Network hospital.
The broadcast will air during two seven-hour segments beginning at noon on Saturday, June 4, and resuming at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5. Local segments during the telethon will feature Iowa families and their children who have been treated at UI Children's Hospital.
Mediacom donates the use of its statewide basic cable channel to televise the Children's Miracle Network telethon each year. All contributions raised through the broadcast will remain in Iowa to benefit pediatric research and treatments at UI Children's Hospital.
Summer Sunday 'Movies@MNH' series features 'Planet Earth'
The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History's "Movies@MNH" series continues with free public showings of episodes from the Discovery Channel's "Planet Earth" series. The episode "Great Plains" will be shown at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12, in Macbride Auditorium.
Other episodes will be shown at 1:30 p.m. in Macbride Auditorium as follows: "Jungles," June 26; "Shallow Seas, July 10; "Seasonal Forests," July 31; and "Ocean Deep," August 7.
