Robert D. Dockendorff Scholarship awardees announced

The University of Iowa Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Staff and Faculty Association, the UI Foundation and the Office of Student Financial Aid have named Amber S.B. Thomas, Casey Daley, Matthew Siegel and Alea Adigweme recipients of the Robert D. Dockendorff Scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year.

Thomas, of Union, New Jersey, is majoring in international studies and English. Daley, of Iowa City, is enrolled in the Bachelor of Liberal Studies external degree program with an emphasis on human rights. Siegel and Adigweme, both of Iowa City, are Master of Fine Arts candidates in the Nonfiction Writing Program.

The Dockendorff Scholarship supports students who are active in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied community, who contribute to the diversity of campus and who demonstrate financial need.

Robert D. Dockendorff graduated from the UI in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology. A native of Danville, Iowa, where his family still owns a farm, he has lived in San Francisco for many years and worked for the Pacific Maritime Association for 35 years before retiring. His interest in student aid stems from his belief that education is the key to solving the country’s problems.
