Media Advisory: Iowa Flood Center, City of Iowa City and National Weather Service unveil Iowa City flood inundation maps Sept. 1

WHAT: The Iowa Flood Center, the City of Iowa City and the National Weather Service will hold a news conference to unveil and demonstrate their online flood inundation maps designed to help Iowa City area residents and businesses better prepare for and anticipate how future flood levels might affect their homes and property.

WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 1, from 10 to 11 a.m.

WHERE: University of Iowa P. Sue Beckwith, M.D., Boathouse, 1201 N. Dubuque St., Iowa City. (Located on the banks of the Iowa River in Terrell Mill Park, across from City Park.)

WHO: The program participants will include:

--Rick Fosse, public works director, City of Iowa City.
--Maren Stoflet, service hydrologist, National Weather Service.
--Nathan Young, associate director, Iowa Flood Center and lead investigator on the development of floodplain maps.

All program participants will be available for interview following a brief presentation and a question-and-answer session. Larry Weber, director of IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering, University of Iowa, will also be available.

The flood inundation maps can be viewed at the National Weather Service website at (scroll down to Quad Cities, Iowa.)
