Media Advisory: Scottish Highlanders to hold 75th Anniversary Celebration and Reunion

WHAT: Scottish Highlander 75th Anniversary Celebration and Reunion

WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 1 to Sunday, Sept. 4

WHERE: The reunion takes place at various locations in Iowa City, but two events are featured: a reunion banquet featuring traditional Scottish entertainment and a presentation will be at 7 p.m. Friday Sept. 2 in the Kinnick Ballroom of the Holiday Inn Hotel in Coralville.

A reception and dedication of the Scottish Highlander exhibit will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame, 2425 Prairie Meadow Drive, Iowa City.

WHO: Approximately 350 people will attend this reunion of the Scottish Highlanders, the UI bagpipe band that first performed in 1937. The Scottish Highlanders have a proud tradition at the UI. In their heyday, they were the largest all-women bagpipe band in the world, traveling across the United States and touring Europe. Although the group officially disbanded in 2008, the Highlander alumni remain a strong and active group.
