UI's Butler first of three finalists for provost

University of Iowa Interim Provost Patrick Barry Butler will meet with faculty, staff, students and administration leaders and participate in a public forum Tuesday, April 26 as a finalist for the provost position.

The first of three finalists, Butler will take part in a forum at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Illinois Seminar Room (Room 348) of the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). He will give a 20- to 25-minute presentation before taking questions from the audience. Members of the university community are encouraged to attend. 

Butler has served as interim provost since November 2010. Previously he served as dean and departmental executive officer and professor in the UI College of Engineering. 

He received his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering and his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, all from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Public forums for the remaining finalists are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the IMU's Bijou Theater, and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in the Bijou Theater.
