Sept. 20, 2010

ESPN’s ‘SportsNation’ coming to UI campus Tuesday

“SportsNation” will broadcast live from the University of Iowa’s Hubbard Park Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 21, as part of ESPN program’s “Big Ten Road Trip.”

“SportsNation” will broadcast starting at 3 p.m. All attendees will be required to pass through a controlled entrance at park and are prohibited from bringing in certain items, including:

* Alcohol
* Bottles or cans
* Backpacks
* Vulgar signs or erasable white boards
* Signs with sticks. No sticks will be allowed.

The event is planned rain or shine, but in case of lightning the event will be moved inside the Iowa Memorial Union.

Friends of the UI and fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes are invited to be part of the audience for the television broadcast, which will feature “SportsNation” hosts Colin Cowherd and Michelle Beadle. The first 1,000 to arrive at Hubbard at 2 p.m. will receive a free souvenir t-shirt featuring the official logo of the Hawkeyes' "Throwback Game" against Ball State on Sept. 24. Tickets to all of Iowa's remaining home football games and other door prizes will also be given away to randomly selected spectators.

Fans are also welcome to attend the broadcast of Cowherd’s daily radio show, “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” from Hubbard Park starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Iowa City and the UI is the second of four stops along the “SportsNation” tour of select Big Ten campuses, which began Monday, Sept. 20 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and continues—after Tuesday’s Iowa visit—to the University of Michigan on Wednesday, Sept. 22, and Penn State University on Thursday, Sept. 23.
