UI President Mason names Provost Search Committee

University of Iowa President Sally Mason announced today the formation of a Provost Search Committee to find a replacement for Wallace Loh, who stepped down in November to become president of the University of Maryland, College Park.

Barry Butler, who was dean of the UI College of Engineering when Loh announced his departure, is serving as interim UI provost.

The committee is composed of faculty, staff and students from across campus, including Faculty Senate leadership, Staff Council leadership and both undergraduate and graduate student leadership. The committee will be co-chaired by Dr. Keith Carter, head of the UI Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in the UI Carver College of Medicine, and Richard Fumerton, professor in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Department of Philosophy and vice president of the Faculty Senate.

The other members are:
--Ken Brown, associate professor and Henry B. Tippie Faculty Fellow, Henry B. Tippie College of Business.
--Nicholas Colangelo, director of The Connie Belin & Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development, Myron & Jacqueline Blank Professor of Gifted Education and Professor, College of Education.
--Ed Dove (ex-officio) president of Faculty Senate and associate professor, Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering.
--David Drake, professor, Dows Institute for Dental Research, College of Dentistry.
--Matt Edwards, academic advisor, Academic Advising Center.
--Keri Hornbuckle, associate dean for academic programs and professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, College of Engineering.
--Lynette Marshall, president and CEO, the University of Iowa Foundation.
--Paula Mobily, associate professor of Adult and Gerontological Nursing and education director, UI Hartford Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence, College of Nursing.
--Heather Ockenfels, doctoral student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program in the UI College of Education and graduate assistant in the Office of the Dean of Students.
--Jane Pendergast, professor of biostatistics, College of Public Health.
--Jeffrey Reist, clinical assistant professor of Pharmacy Practice and Science, College of Pharmacy.
--John Rigby, president of UI Student Government.
--Leonard Sandler, clinical professor of law, College of Law.
--Amber Seaton, president of Staff Council and administrative specialist II, Pharmacy Practice and Science, College of Pharmacy.
--Clark Stanford, associate dean for research and Centennial Fund Professor for Clinical Research, Dows Institute for Dental Research, College of Dentistry.
--Marcia Ward, professor and associate head of the Department of Health Management and Policy, and director of the Center for Health Policy and Research, College of Public Health.

The Committee will conduct its first meeting Dec. 2 and will meet regularly through spring 2011.
