Five individuals and non-profit organizations were honored for their work during this week’s annual Iowa Nonprofit Summit in Ames.
The summit was held Monday and Tuesday and brought more than 600 leaders of non-profit and charitable organizations from across the state to discuss management, fundraising, training and other issues.
Award winners included:
--Susan Schierholz of the Story County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, who received the Nonprofit Board/Staff Leadership Award for her work as a full-time volunteer president of Story County Community Foundation establishing charitable trusts in Story County.
--Bravo Greater Des Moines received the Nonprofit Spotlight Award for its financial support for ongoing operations and programming to cultural organizations in the Des Moines area.
--Ralph Rosenberg of Des Moines received the Outstanding Volunteer or Service Manager Award for his work as a state legislator, VISTA volunteer and as director of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission.
--Youth Shelter Services as lead provider agency in the Iowa Aftercare Services Network received the Nonprofit Collaboration Award for an organization with revenue of more than $1 million for its work helping young Iowa adults in all 99 counties who have aged-out of foster care.
--The Northeast Iowa Funders Network, a group of six county community foundations, received the Nonprofit Collaboration Award for an organization with revenues less than $500,000, for its work in developing regional development projects in the area comprised of Allamakee, Clayton, Chickasaw, Fayette, Howard and Winneshiek counties.
Awards were determined by members of the planning committee, representatives of the University of Iowa’s Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center, Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, Iowa Council of Foundations, United Ways of Iowa, Grant Enterprise Management, Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center, Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service and Campus Compact.
