UI Museum of Natural History children's book reading focuses on ducks

The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History "Story-time Explorers" series continues Sunday, May 16, with children's book readings about ducks.
The free public event begins at 2 p.m. in the Hageboeck Hall of Birds, located on the third floor of Macbride Hall on the UI Pentacrest.

Story-time Explorers readings are geared toward elementary-age children and their families. Visitors will have an opportunity learn about ducks and their traits, such as bills, feet and feathers. Children will be able to explore ducks of the world and design their own paper plate duck to take home.

The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History features three permanent galleries exploring natural history and emerging environmental research in Iowa and beyond. For more information, call 319-335-0606 or visit


University of Iowa Health Care - Muscatine opens May 17

University of Iowa Health Care - Muscatine opens Monday, May 17, at 3465 Mulberry Ave. in Muscatine. The facility welcomes new and existing patients and provides improved and expanded services:

--Family medicine services are offered 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

--Dialysis services are offered 5 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

--Additional specialty outreach services for heart and lung care will be offered beginning in June.

--UI QuickCare, a walk-in clinic designed to treat minor illness and injuries during the evening and Saturdays, will be available at UI Health Care - Muscatine later this summer.

In addition, UI Health Care will continue to provide specialty services for cancer at Trinity Muscatine.

UI Health Care has provided services and partnered with local providers and hospital facilities in the Muscatine area since the early 1970s to deliver high-quality patient care.

UI offers workshops for social workers in Iowa City, Des Moines

The University of Iowa School of Social Work in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is offering the following workshops for the professional development of social workers and those working in human services.

--"Cultural Competence for the Seasoned Social Worker," Friday, June 11, UI Pappajohn Education Center, Des Moines. Speakers: Raygena Curry, MSW, LISW, Eileen Swoboda, MSW, LISW.

--"Social Work Ethics: Protecting Professional Relationships, Practicing Ethical Decision Making," Friday, July 9, UI School of Social Work, North Hall, Iowa City. Speaker: David Rust, MSW, LISW.

--"Creative Writing: Applications in the Helping Professions," Friday, July 23 through Monday, July 26, UI School of Social Work, North Hall, Iowa City. Speakers: Ellen Szabo; Mercedes Bern-Klug, Ph.D., M.S.W., M.A.
