UI Health Care to open new facility in Muscatine in May

University of Iowa Health Care will open a new health care facility in May in Muscatine to provide expanded services. The new facility, UI Health Care - Muscatine, will be located at 3465 Mulberry Ave.

The new facility was developed to provide an improved patient care setting for patients who need dialysis, as well as to provide specialty outreach services for the community.

In addition, family medicine services and a UI QuickCare clinic, which is a walk-in clinic designed to treat minor illness and injuries, will be part of the new facility.

Programs and services in the new facility will continue to be developed to meet patients' expectations and needs, said Craig Syrop, M.D., practicing physician and associate vice president for the physician group with UI Health Care.

"We know how important it is for patients and employees to be able to stay in their own community for their health care needs whenever possible. We are both improving and expanding our services to give patients more access to the range of care they may need," Syrop said.

Syrop added that partnerships with local providers have been and will continue to be important to success in patient care for the community. He pointed out that UI Health Care has a long tradition of serving Muscatine, and has been providing services in the community since the early 1970s.

"We have long-standing relationships with community physicians, many of whom trained with us, and we intend to continue working with the community physicians and local hospital facilities for services that can be delivered locally," Syrop said.

Michael Maharry, M.D., UI clinical associate professor of family medicine, will provide family medicine services at the new facility. Maharry has been an active member of the community and lives in Muscatine with his family. He has been a physician with UI Health Care since 1999.

The specific opening date for the facility will be announced at a later date.
