'Meet Me in St. Louis' kicks off 'Movies@MNH' series Jan. 31

The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History will kick off this semester's "Movies @ MNH" with a screening of "Meet Me in St. Louis" at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, in Macbride Auditorium. The film is being shown in conjunction with the "Museum Goes to the Fair: Rediscovering the Philippine Collection at the Museum of Natural History" exhibit, which runs until Feb. 21.

"Meet Me in St. Louis," which takes place at the beginning of the 1903 St. Louis World's Fair, stars Judy Garland and Margaret O'Brien as daughters of the well-off Smith family. The family is shocked when Mr. Smith announces that he has been transferred to New York, which means the family will have to leave St. Louis and the fair.

In February, the PBS "Evolution" series will be shown to commemorate Darwin Day, Feb. 12, marking the birth of Charles Darwin, the first person to describe the process of evolution.

In April, which is Earth Month, the movie series will feature films on a variety of environmental topics. The April films are part of a larger Earth Month program with events sponsored by the Museum of Natural History, the UI Office of Sustainability, and ECO Iowa City.

All Movies @ MNH are free and open to the public and will be shown at 2 p.m. in Macbride Auditorium. Upcoming movie dates include:
