Kids Against Hunger food packaging to be held at UI Feb. 27

University Housing Saturdays in Service and Night Games are co-sponsoring a Kids Against Hunger food-packaging event during Night Games on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 10 to 11 p.m. in the University of Iowa Field House.

Kids Against Hunger (KAH) of Cedar Rapids ( is a nonprofit organization dedicated to feeding starving children around the world.

This will be the first-ever KAH food packaging event with UI students. Thanks to an anonymous donor, KAH will bring the ingredients and equipment, set up the assembly line and then about 24 UI student volunteers will package 2,000 meals. The food packages will be distributed to earthquake victims in Leogane, Haiti, where doctors Chris Buresh and Joshua White from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics donate their time and medical skills.

Other students who attend Night Games will learn how they, too, can help end world hunger, said Erin Gorman a UI AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America volunteer. Information on community volunteer opportunities also will be available.

For more information, contact Gorman at or Heather A. Ockenfels in University Housing, or 319-335-3700.
