UI Hospitals and Clinics residency programs re-accredited

Two pharmacy training programs at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City have earned reaccreditation from a national organization.

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program and the PGY-2 Ambulatory/Primary Care Pharmacy Residency Program both received six-year reaccreditations from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Commission on Credentialing.

The commission is responsible for the accreditation of pharmacy residencies and pharmacy technician training programs. This includes formulating and recommending changes in standards, assessing programs adherence to compliance of the standards and recommending accreditation status of programs. For more information about accreditations from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, visit http://www.ashp.org/Import/ACCREDITATION.aspx.

Cedar Falls boy, 5, is Kid Captain for Insight Bowl

Benny Barnard, 5, son of Sara and Tim Barnard of Cedar Falls, Iowa, will serve as honorary Kid Captain when the Iowa Hawkeyes face Missouri at the Insight Bowl Dec. 28.

Benny was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago, but thanks to chemotherapy treatments at UI Children's Hospital, he was declared to be in remission in early February 2009. Benny continues to receive additional chemotherapy treatment and takes daily oral medications at home. Through it all, he remains an active youngster and a huge Hawkeye fan.

Now in its second year, the Kid Captain program is a partnership between UI Children's Hospital and the Iowa Hawkeyes to honor UI Children's Hospital patients and celebrate their inspirational stories.

All Kid Captains, including honorary away game captains, will receive a commemorative jersey and have their individual stories told throughout the football season.
