Former editor Emily Gould reads Aug. 26

Former editor Emily Gould will read from her essay collection "And the Heart Says Whatever," at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, in Prairie Lights, 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City. The free event will be streamed live on the University of Iowa's Writing University website,

In these 11 essays Gould turns a sharp eye on her childhood, brief collegiate career in Ohio and eventual move to New York.

Gould has written for the New York Times, the New York Observer, and the New York Times Magazine. She has also been an associate editor at Hyperion Books and co-authored the young adult novel "Hex Education." Visit her blog at
