Gov. Culver on campus to sign nursing workforce legislation

Iowa Gov. Chet Culver will visit the University of Iowa Wednesday, April 21, to sign into law Senate File 2384, "Nursing Workforce Legislation."

The signing will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the Old Capitol. The public is welcome to attend.

Senate File 2384 establishes an Iowa Needs Nurses Now Initiative which, among other things:

* Calls for the creation of a nursing workforce data clearinghouse

* Provides support and incentives for nurses in Iowa, including medical training matching grants programs, provider recruitment and retention initiatives

* Directs the Iowa College Student Aid Commission to establish a nurse educator incentive payment program, nursing faculty fellowship program, nurse educator scholarship program and nurse educator scholarship-in-exchange-for-service program.
