UI presents Lifelong Learning events May 19, 21 in Omaha/Council Bluffs

The University of Iowa Alumni Association is presenting two Lifelong Learning events in Omaha/Council Bluffs on Tuesday, May 19, and Thursday, May 21.

For the May 19 event, the UI Alumni Association and UI College of Pharmacy will host an educational presentation on how to manage medications at Omaha Botanical Center's Lauritzen Gardens, 100 Bancroft St. in Omaha. All UI graduates and friends are invited to the gardens starting at 5 p.m., a casual reception at 6:30 p.m, and the talk, "Tips on Managing your Medications: Thoughts from a Pharmacist" at 7 p.m. by UI Pharmacy Professor Karen Farris. Pharmacy alumni and friends are also invited to a special reception with Donald E. Letendre (left), dean of the UI College of Pharmacy. The event is free and open to the community.

For the May 21 event, the UI Alumni Association will host a reception at Tish's Family Restaurant, 1207 S. 35th St. in Council Bluffs, with the UI Faculty Engagement Corps. This group of UI faculty is traveling to western Iowa to learn about achievements and challenges in three communities while sharing the UI's mission of service along with teaching and research.

After a reception with the faculty members starting at 6:30 p.m., Liz Christiansen, (right) director of the UI Office of Sustainability, will give an interactive presentation at 7:15 p.m., "Sustainable Iowa: Is it Easy Being Green After All?" exploring the university's work in energy conservation and renewable energy sources, recycling, transportation, and "green" buildings. This presentation is also free and open to the community.
