UI Hospitals and Clinics named Top 100 hospital for nursing professionals

Nursing leaders at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics announced today that Nursing Professionals magazine has named Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center to its 2009 "Top 100 Hospitals to Work For" list.

UI Hospitals and Clinics ranked 81st on the list and is the only Iowa hospital included in the ranking.

The Top 100 Hospitals issue will be published today. Nursing Professionals is distributed to more than 55,000 nursing students across the United States.

"It is clear that our nursing staff is among the finest, most accomplished group of professionals in the nation," said Ann Williamson, Ph.D., associate vice president for nursing and chief nursing officer at UI Hospitals and Clinics. "They deserve to have the best possible work environment, and this ranking obviously places us among centers that are committed to meeting the needs of nurses."

The American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program for excellence in nursing services first designated UI Hospitals and Clinics as a Magnet hospital in 2004 and again in 2008. UI Hospitals and Clinics was the first hospital in the state to earn the prestigious Magnet recognition and the first to be re-designated as a Magnet hospital for nurses.
Nursing Professionals, a new magazine, serves as a recruiting tool for hospitals, the military and corporations to recruit nursing graduates. The bi-annual publication features useful articles, timely sidebars, professional advice and career profiles.
