Registration under way for UI alumni reunion weekend 2009

The University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) invites alumni to reconnect with old friends, reminisce about former days on campus, and make new memories during Alumni Reunion 2009 April 17 and 18 in Iowa City.

Registration for reunion events and activities continues through Friday, April 3. In the past, Alumni Reunion was held in June, but the new date change to April will allow attendees to interact with students and see an active campus while classes are in session.

This year's reunion, sponsored by Melrose Meadows Retirement Community, will honor graduates of the class of 1959. The College of Nursing will honor classes from additional years. All alumni who graduated more than 50 years ago are invited to attend as well. Visit the UI Alumni Association's reunion Web site at for a complete listing of honored classes.

Highlights for the reunion include the All-Class Banquet at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, April 18, when the UIAA will hold the Circle of Gold presentation to honor 50-year alumni. Class of 1959 graduates and their guests will also be honored at a private reception at UI President Mason's Residence at 102 Church St. in Iowa City.

Events for Reunion 2009 will include college tours and seminars, lunch at Burge Hall, and a bus tour for alumni to view the latest additions to campus and Iowa City, as well as renovations to old favorites such as the Iowa Memorial Union. Several college socials and dinners are also planned, as well as a tour of the Hayden Fry Football Complex.

Housing for the reunion weekend will be available at several area hotels; a free van service is also available to transport guests from hotels to reunion activities.

Registration fees are $10 for UIAA members, $20 for nonmembers, plus various costs for college dinners and other activities. For more information on how to receive an Alumni Reunion brochure call 1-800-469-2586. To register online visit
