Feb. 6, 2009

New Emily Wilson poetry collection is published by the University of Iowa Press

"Micrographia," the new poetry collection by University of Iowa Writers' Workshop alumna Emily Wilson, will become available March 1, 2009, from the Kuhl House Poets series of the University of Iowa Press.

The book will be available at bookstores or directly from the UI Press by phone at 800-621-2736 or online at http://www.uiowapress.org. Customers in the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East or Africa may order from the Eurospan Group online at http://www.eurospangroup.com/bookstore.

Poet Michele Glazer wrote, "These are astonishing poems, with their intricate diction and bitten syntax. They reveal an intelligence not less wild, not less original, than the world that is the focus of Wilson's quiet, fierce attention."

"Micrographia" explores what Wilson calls "the complex rigged wildness" of geographical, emotional, and verbal states. Following in the tradition of Dickinson, Bishop and Ammons, Wilson's work regards the mind as "enmeshed" with the natural world, always "at the hinge of going over." Her examination of detail ranges from coastal Nova Scotia to the Andean highlands to Brooklyn's industrial Gowanus Canal to her own backyard.

Wilson's "The Keep" was published by the UI Press in 2001.
