UI marketing students pick Doritos, rude flowers as best Super Bowl ads

University of Iowa marketing students were largely unmoved by punched-out koalas and an office worker working at a desk under a moose's backside after watching ads during Sunday's Super Bowl.

Instead, the ad they liked best was made by amateurs and featured an office worker throwing a crystal ball at a break-room vending machine.

The students, members of the Tippie MBA program's Graduate Marketing Association, get together every Super Bowl Sunday to watch and rank the ads that are as hyped as the game itself. Afterwards, they critique the ads and name winners in the categories of funniest ad, best ad, ad making the biggest impact, and worst ad.

This year, the Doritos commercial won in both the best ad and funniest ad categories. It shows an office employee throwing a crystal ball at a vending machine after predicting everyone in the office will get free Doritos. The ad was made as part of a contest sponsored by Doritos.

Teleflora's commercial won the award for the ad that made the biggest impact. In the commercial, a woman surrounded by coworkers opens a box of flowers that proceeds to insult her.

The students named as the worst ad the latest commercial by, which continued its theme in recent Super Bowl ads generating buzz by using images of busty women in tight clothing.
