CLAS Alumni Fellow will speak on 'life and meaning' Sept. 11

N. Peggy Burke, University of Iowa associate professor emerita of health and sport studies, will present "Looking at Life through the Large End of a Telescope: Reflections on Life and Meaning," at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 in auditorium C20 of the Pomerantz Career Center. The free, public talk will be followed by a reception.

Burke is a 2009 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Alumni Fellow. The Alumni Fellows Program, established by Dean Linda Maxson in 1999, recognizes CLAS graduates for outstanding contributions to society, their professions, the college and the university.

She has spent a life in service to the principles of women's and human rights, civic engagement, and social consciousness. Since 1957, she has been involved in the promotion of women in sport, receiving a NCAA Lifetime Achievement Award. Her scholarship focused on women in sport and the impact of Title IX.

The event is sponsored by the Department of Health and Sport Studies and the Iowa Women's Archives. For more information, visit http://www.clas.uiowa.edu/alumni/programs/fellows/2009/.
