UI Arts Share program is now scheduling 2009-10 events

The critics agree. Arts Share, the University of Iowa outreach program that sends faculty and graduate-student artists to schools and communities throughout the state, is a hit.

"Thank you for visiting our classes and performing scenes from Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. Both the discussions and the performances were wonderful! Arts Share is a great opportunity for energizing curriculum ... and language arts teachers as well!"

"Dancers In Company's performance was wonderful! Everyone is raving about them ... all of it was just so great! Very professional, as all Arts Share programs are. We've never been disappointed."

Of course, the critics cited above aren't the hard-bitten Broadway type; they're the Iowa teachers and students served by Arts Iowa. But that's just the audience that Arts Share aims to please.

The UI program is now scheduling events for the 2009-10 season. To obtain a brochure that includes a scheduling request form contact the Arts Share office at 319-335-1618 or For information about the programs and online forms, visit the Arts Share Web site at

The goal of Arts Share is to strengthen the arts in underserved areas and to provide access to life-enriching arts experiences throughout Iowa. To serve that goal, Arts Share makes artists available in music, theater, dance, the visual arts and creative writing. The available activities range from workshops to ensemble coaching to concerts to lectures -- and even special, custom-designed projects.

The 2009-10 Arts Share roster features nearly 100 individual artists and ensembles, with options to fit a variety of needs and budgets. Many schools have scheduled several Arts Share artists to create a concentrated arts day, or have engaged an artist to make multiple visits, enabling their guidance of long-term projects.

Arts Share sponsors for 2009-10 include Alliant Energy Foundation and the Johnson & Johnson/Society for the Arts in Healthcare.

Arts Share is a unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

UI arts events are searchable on the UI Master Calendar: For additional arts information, visit To receive UI arts news by e-mail, go to and click the link "Join or Leave ACR News," then follow the instructions.
