Madison appointed to Robert F. Godwin Professorship

Kathi Madison, M.D., professor of dermatology at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and a physician with UI Hospitals and Clinics, has been appointed to the Robert F. Godwin Professorship in Dermatology.

Madison is the first UI professor to hold the professorship, which was established in 2008 through a gift made to the UI Foundation by UI alumnus Robert F. Godwin, M.D., and his wife, Mary Joan Godwin, of Bettendorf. Robert Godwin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a medical degree at the UI.

Madison provides general dermatologic clinical care, as well as specialized care related to psoriasis, phototherapy and retinoid therapy. Her research interests include the clinical use of retinoids to treat skin disease and the relationship of skin lipid structure and metabolism to cutaneous disease.

"We appreciate the Godwins' generosity, and I'm delighted that we could appoint Dr. Madison to the new Robert F. Godwin professorship. Kathi's accomplishments and goals are a perfect fit for making the most of this opportunity," said Janet Fairley, M.D., professor and head of the UI Department of Dermatology, who also holds the John S. Strauss Chair in Dermatology.

Madison earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a medical degree from Brown University. She completed a residency in dermatology at the University of Michigan, where she also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cell biology. Madison joined the UI faculty in 1984.

The UI acknowledges the UI Foundation as the preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the university. For more information, visit the UI Foundation's Web site at
