'Buildings' magazine lists UI Facilities Management among top 10
For the fourth year in a row, and despite the flood, University of Iowa Facilities Management has been listed among the top 10 industry leaders in building management in the United States.
The September issue of "Buildings" magazine and the related Buildings.com Web site puts the UI at tenth place in the annual "Who's Who in the Buildings Market 2008."
The UI appears among 44 facilities management organizations and departments "that are getting things done in truly remarkable ways," including the University of California San Diego, Raytheon, and the City of Chicago. The article mentions that the magazine plans another article in October on the UI's flood recovery program.
UI Facilities Management oversees the management of some 16 million square feet in 268 buildings.

WRAC offers two new support and discussion groups
The Women's Resource and Action Center at the University of Iowa will offer two new support and discussion groups beginning in early October. Both groups are open to the public and meet at WRAC, 130 N. Madison St. in Iowa City.
Infertility Support Group is designed for women who are experiencing infertility. The group will be a forum to discuss fertility related issues and coping skills. A goal is to provide a decreased sense of isolation related to infertility. The group will meet on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. beginning Oct. 7.
"We're So Crafty" is designed to provide a general, common space for women and men to come and work on projects such as knitting, sewing, cross-stitch and crochet and to be part of a "crafty community" in the process. The group will meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 1.
Pre-registration is requested. While there is no charge for participation in either group, there is a suggested donation of $10 to help cover the center's costs in providing them.

Y105 Radiothon raised $80,000 for UI Children's Hospital
The seventh annual Y105-FM Radiothon benefiting University of Iowa Children's Hospital through Children's Miracle Network raised $80,133 during a live broadcast Sept. 10-12 from Kennedy Mall in Dubuque.
The Y105 broadcast team shared the stories of children and their families who receive care at UI Children's Hospital in Iowa City.

Recreational Services hosts Steve Goff Memorial 5K Run/Walk Sept. 28
The Division of Recreational Services at the University of Iowa is sponsoring the Steve Goff Memorial Cross-Country 5K Run/Walk Sunday, Sept. 28, to benefit a scholarship fund established in his name.
Goff was a professor in the UI Department of Health, Leisure, and Sports Studies from 1994 to 1998. He was an outstanding educator and athlete who died of cancer at the age of 43. All proceeds from the run/walk will be donated to the Steve Goff Scholarship Fund, which awards a scholarship each year to an undergraduate leisure studies student.
The race is at the UI's Ashton Cross-Country Course, located west of the Hawkeye Recreation Fields and just North of Melrose Ave. Race day registration will begin at 8:15 a.m. with walkers starting at 9 a.m. and runners starting at 9:30 a.m.
Entry fee is $12 before Friday, Sept. 26; $15 on race day. Participants compete in an intramural division for those affiliated with the UI and an open division for those who are not.
