Writers' Workshop visiting faculty member Scott Spencer reads Nov. 7

University of Iowa Writers' Workshop visiting faculty member Scott Spencer will read from his work in a free event at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in the Frank Conroy Reading Room of Dey House on the UI campus.

Spencer is the author of nine novels, including "Endless Love," which has sold more than two million copies, was nominated for the National Book Award and was adapted for a film by Franco Zeffirelli.

His other novels include "The Rich Man's Table," "Men in Black," "A Ship Made of Paper" and "Waking the Dead," which was also made into a movie starring Jennifer Connelly. His latest novel is "Willing," published earlier this year. He has also written for Rolling Stone, Oprah Magazine, the New York Times, The New Yorker, GQ and Harper's Magazine.

An article in the Wall Street Journal observed: "There are few novelists alive who use the English language as Scott Spencer does. . . . Every ache of feeling, every failed effort at restraint, every attempt at self-deception is captured in precise, beautifully cadenced prose."

The Writers' Workshop is a graduate program in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
