MEDIA ADVISORY: National Endowment for Humanities presentation on flood of 2008

EDITORS AND NEWS DIRECTORS: The information below describes a presentation related to the flood of 2008.

WHAT: The University of Iowa will host a talk by the National Endowment for the Humanities on democratic education that will include information on the flood of 2008 and NEH recovery activities.

WHEN: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008.

WHERE: Room 140 of Schaeffer Hall. A reception will follow on the first floor of the Old Capitol Museum.

WHO: Thomas Lindsay, deputy director of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), will deliver a presentation on "Democratic Education for the 21st Century." His remarks also will cover the NEH's role in helping institutions recover from the flood. UI administrators plan to use part of the presentation program to recognize faculty and staff who recently received NEH awards, other federal and foundation grants and fellowships in the arts and humanities, and UI Arts and Humanities Initiative Awards.
