The Career Leadership Academy is a four-semester academic program that helps UI undergraduates develop their leadership skills. The goal of the program is to prepare UI undergraduates to become successful professionals after college. Within the Career Leadership Academy there are opportunities for students to network with professionals; learn about multiculturalism, diversity and intercultural development; engage in teambuilding workshops; practice resume and cover letter writing; learn effective communication skills; attend etiquette dinners; lead service projects; and explore a variety of career search tools.

The pilot phase began in spring 2007 with 56 students. Since then the program has grown exponentially; currently there are 349 UI undergraduates enrolled in the program. It is anticipated that by spring 2009 there will be 500 students in the academy.
