Hovenkamp receives Justice Department honor for antitrust work

University of Iowa law professor Herbert Hovenkamp has been named the recipient of the 2008 John Sherman Award from the U.S. Department of Justice for his contributions to the teaching and enforcement of antitrust law and protection of American consumers.

Hovenkamp, one of the nation's leading antitrust scholars, has written or contributed to more than 120 articles and books about antitrust law and competition, and is the lead author of the casebook Antitrust Law. He also worked as an advisor to the state attorneys general who successfully sued Microsoft, claiming it held monopoly power.
