Carter to receive American Pharmacists Association honor

Barry Carter, Pharm.D., professor of clinical and administrative pharmacy in the UI College of Pharmacy, has been selected as the 2008 recipient of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Research Achievement Award in the Pharmaceutical Sciences (Clinical).

Carter's research focuses on strategies to improve adherence to treatment guidelines; methods to improve drug therapy; and strategies to reduce medication risk. With hypertension, for example, Carter and his colleagues examine barriers to implementing blood pressure treatments and develop collaborative, physician/pharmacist team approaches to improving and maintaining proper medication use.

Carter will receive the award March 16 at the APhA annual meeting in San Diego.

'What Would Jesus Buy?' film at Bijou Jan. 25-31

The Bijou Theater in the Iowa Memorial Union will show the new film about America's consumer compulsion, "What Would Jesus Buy?" from Friday Jan. 25 to Thursday, Jan. 31. In advance of the screening, the Friday, Jan. 25 edition of  "The Exchange" on Iowa Public Radio (heard locally on WSUI 910 AM from 10 to 11 a.m.) will focus on consumerism in America. Tom Dean, special assistant to the UI president for communications and research and adjunct professor, and Ben Hunnicutt, professor in the UI Department of Leisure Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Science, will join Bill Talen, who plays Rev. Billy, the lead character in "What Would Jesus Buy?"
