UI nurse specialist named American Academy of Nursing Fellow

An advanced practice nurse at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City became one of 54 leaders in the field inducted as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) during the organization's most recent meeting in Washington, D.C.

Victoria Steelman, Ph.D., received the prestigious honor during the November 2007 AAN conference. Steelman began her service at UI Hospitals and Clinics in 1989. She is currently an advanced practice nurse in perioperative nursing, working closely with faculty and staff to study and implement evidence-based practices to improve care in the operating room.

"The Academy is comprised of many of the nation's top nursing executives, policy makers, scholars, researchers and practitioners," said AAN President Linda Burness Bolton, Dr.P.H. "Induction into the Academy represents an esteemed honor and recognition of outstanding achievement."

Selection criteria include evidence of significant national or international contributions to nursing and health care. The mission of the Academy is to serve the public and nursing profession by advancing health policy and practice through the generation, synthesis and dissemination of nursing knowledge.
