Camping for Kids event to benefit UI Children's Hospital

Debbie and Don Reinier of Muscatine will hold their second annual Camping for Kids event Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Wal-Mart store located at 3003 N. Highway 61 in Muscatine.

The 24-hour fundraising event honors the memory of the Reiniers' son, Ben, who lost his battle with cancer on Sept. 2, 2003, at the age of 10. The inaugural event in 2008 raised more than $4,800.

All of the proceeds will benefit University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City through Children's Miracle Network. The funds will be donated at the UI Dance Marathon celebration Feb. 6-7.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute receives funding renewal

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Iowa Center on Aging has received a $100,000 funding renewal from the Bernard Osher Foundation to continue providing learning opportunities for adults age 50 and over.

This is the third year of funding for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), which partners with existing university and community-based resources to offer class-based, service-based and experiential learning for older adults. OLLI recently released its spring 2009 course offerings. For details, visit

OLLI at the UI is affiliated with the national network of Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes, designated and funded by the Osher Foundation, based in San Francisco, Calif.
