Undefeated UI Debate Team wins Macalester Debate Tournament
University of Iowa students Kiranjeet Dhillon and Nathaniel Olson were part of the UI Debate Team, which claimed victory at the Macalester Debate Tournament in St. Paul, Minn. Dec. 6 and 7, defeating the team from Concordia in the final round to finish 8-0.
Dhillon, a junior political science major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) from Kissimmee, Fla., also won the top speaker award, which is presented to the top-performing debater at the tournament. Olson, a freshman psychology major in CLAS from St. Paul, Minn., placed third in the individual award race.
This semester the Iowa Debate Team has won two tournaments, received Top Speaker honors at two tournaments, and placed in the top 20 at two tournaments. The next intercollegiate debate tournament will be the University of Southern California National Invitational the first week of January.
The UI Debate Team is part of the A. Craig Baird Debate Forum, which is part of the Division of Continuing Education.

UI Health Care hires new human resources associate vice president
Leaders of University of Iowa Health Care announced today the appointment of Chad Simmons as the enterprise's first associate vice president for human resources.
Simmons will lead the integration of the human resource functions for all components of UI Health Care, including the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and UI Hospitals and Clinics. UI Health Care has approximately 10,000 fulltime employees.
Simmons graduated from Morehouse College and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the UI. Simmons most recently served as the associate director of human resources for Kraft Foods in Northfield, Ill.
UI Recreational Services offers holiday mini tennis camp Dec. 27-30
Registration has begun for the Hawkeye Hitters mini tennis camp offered by the University of Iowa Recreational Services from Saturday, Dec. 27 to Tuesday, Dec. 30 at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Michele Conlon will be conducting a Holiday Tennis Mini-Camp for youth ages 5-18.
The camp is for beginning to advanced players and will include stroke and strategy instruction, video, fun on-court activities, and a ticket to the Iowa men's basketball game Saturday, Dec. 27.
Registration fee is $100. Please register before Monday, Dec. 22 by calling 319-384-1215 or stopping by the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex, 2820 Prairie Meadows Drive in Iowa City.
