Pentacrest Museums announce holiday events, gift shop specials and hours
The University of Iowa Pentacrest Museums will offer special events for all ages this holiday season, from a hands-on activity table for kids to gift specials for last-minute shoppers.
At the Museum of Natural History, visitors can stop by the winter solstice activity table in Iowa Hall (first floor of Macbride Hall) during regular hours from Saturday, Dec. 20, through Sunday, Dec. 28 to learn about winter animal behavior, explore the science of snow and make their own crafts.
Through Dec. 14, the Old Capitol Museum will feature a Victorian holidays activity table with popular ornaments and crafts of the era. Visitors will have the chance to make decorations and greeting cards, or pick out a Victorian recipe to take home and try.
Gift shops for both museums are currently open for holiday shopping. At the Old Capitol Museum Gift Shop, visitors will find a new shipment of hand-woven baskets, fun toys and games for the history-lover, quill pens, a varied selection of books about Iowa's vibrant history and custom Old Capitol gear. From Dec. 16 to 21 all ornaments will be on sale and the shop will also offer free gift-wrapping with any purchase.
The Museum of Natural History gift shop, located in the Iowa Hall lobby, features great gifts including books, toys, t-shirts, games, and more related to Iowa's natural and cultural history.
