UI Hawkeyes take talents on the road with RAGBRAI

RAGBRAI has been an Iowan tradition for 36 years. But this year, members of the University of Iowa community wanted to offer a little bit more. University of Iowa faculty and staff took their talents and areas of expertise on the road to connect with other riders and Iowans across the state.

“There’s probably not a person in Iowa that hasn’t poked around in the ground… when they were little kids,” said Eleisha Barnett, an employee from the UI's Office of the State Archaeologist. “We wanted to get people interested in what was going on as far as archaeology was concerned.”

UI archaeologists were just a few of the many Hawkeyes who participated in RAGBRAI. Many UI faculty, doctors, nurses and students all hopped aboard the eight-day, seven-night journey. More than 10,000 people from around the world attended RAGBRAI and rolled across nearly 472 miles. With so many people from different places, one thing was certain:

"We've seen a lot of Hawkeye people," said Nancy Hanson, an operating room nurse at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
