Annual M.F.A. exhibition opens at UI Museum of Art May 9
"Master of Fine Arts 2008," an exhibition of works by recent recipients of the Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History, will be on display at the University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA) from Friday, May 9, through Sunday, June 8.
A reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibition and honor the M.F.A. graduate artists will be held at the museum at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 9.
Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.
"The great vitality of the M.F.A. exhibition this year reflects the infusion of energy from new techniques, emerging technologies and the excitement of interdisciplinary engagement that characterize the contemporary arts," Dorothy Johnson, director of the School of Art and Art History, said. "Our gifted emerging artists will take with them into their art practice conceptual sophistication as well as technical mastery and the ability to think about the arts from novatory perspectives."
The M.F.A. exhibition occurs annually to display the thesis works of all students who graduated in the past year from the UI School of Art and Art History M.F.A. program.
The 2008 exhibition will include works by 24 graduate artists representing the School of Art and Art History's studio areas of design, intermedia, jewelry and metal arts, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking and painting and drawing.
The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Admission is free. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
