UI WISE program awards travel grants

The University of Iowa Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program has announced fall semester award recipients of its Dr. Eunice Schuytema Beam Travel Grant Program. The award winners, each of whom will receive $250 toward travel to a professional meeting to present scholarly work, are:


Auburn: Joni Lakin, a doctoral student studying educational psychology in the College of Education Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations, presented a paper, "Accuracy and Access: Competing Goals in the Selection of Students for Gifted and Enrichment Services," before the annual meeting of the American Educational Education Association, March 24-28 in New York.


Baoshan City, Yunnan Province: Ye Li, a doctoral student in analytical chemistry in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Department of Chemistry, presented a paper, "Separation of Endogenous Fluorophores in Normal and Cancer Cells by Capillary Electrophoresis," at the 59th Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, March 1-7 in New Orleans.

Jinan, Shandong Province: Shuman He, a doctoral student studying speech and hearing science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, presented a paper, "The Electrically Evoked Binaural Interaction Component of Auditory Brainstem Response: Effect of Electrode Pairing and Comparison with Psychophysical Measure of Pitch Matching," at the 10th International Conference on Cochlear Implants and Other Implantable Auditory Technologies, April 10-12 in San Diego, Calif.

Xi'an: Suhong Zhang, a doctoral student studying public health and biostatistics in the College of Public Health, presented a paper, "A Mixture-Model Approach to Bivariate Hybrid Censored Survival Data," before a meeting of the International Biometric Society, March 16-19 in Arlington, Va.
