Expert to address health impacts of industrial food animal production April 23
Ellen K. Silbergeld, professor of environmental health sciences at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, will present "Public Health Impacts of Industrial Food Animal Production," at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in Room 2117 of the UI Medical Education and Research Facility.
A leading authority in the field of environmental health, Silbergeld's research connects environmental and occupational exposures to health risks in human populations. The free presentation, sponsored by the Upper Midwest Center for Public Health Preparedness, also will be available as a live webcast.

Engineering holds Caterpillar lecture on combustion April 24
Combustion instabilities in rockets and other engines will be the subject of a free, public talk by Vigor Yang, John L. and Genevieve H. McCain Chair in Engineering at Penn State University, from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in Macbride Hall Auditorium on the University of Iowa campus.
A Caterpillar "On the Edge of Technology" Lecture, the talk is titled "Combustion Dynamics in Propulsion Systems" and is hosted by the UI College of Engineering Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
The Caterpillar lecture is made possible through grants awarded to the College of Engineering through the UI Foundation by the Caterpillar Foundation of Peoria, Ill. The grants comprise the Caterpillar Excellence Fund, which aids students, faculty, and curriculum development in the College of Engineering.
