UI Department of Dance presents Graduate/Undergraduate Concert Dec. 4-6

The University of Iowa Department of Dance will present its fall Graduate/Undergraduate Concert at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 4 through 6, in the Space Place Theater of UI North Hall.

The concert program -- chosen through an audition/adjudication process by faculty members Alan Sener, Jennifer Kayle and Thaddeus Davis -- includes:

--Lynn Bowman's "Let Them Eat Cake" is a whimsical trio set to "Summer" from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons."
--Kate Vigmostad collaborated with her quintet of dancers to create "Trace," set to her own "Evening Soundscape," edited by C.C. Brown.
--A text and sound score contributed by the dancers accompanies Sydnie Mosley's "Doo Bee Dop, Doo Et," combining rhythmic movement, scatting and storytelling about sibling relationships.
--Picasso's bull drawings were the inspiration for Analia Alegre-Femenais' solo "A Sum of Parts."
--The Kronos Quartet's version of music by Sigur Ros accompanies Keely Glenn's farming quartet, "Terra Firma."
--Amy Echols wrote the text for her "Containment," a quartet inspired by a Matisse painting of a lonely woman.
--Mosley's "Pulled/Together" is a quintet exploring collective energy, set to Michael Wall's "Beginning."
--Keely Shaffer-Glenn and Steven V. Hullana collaborated on their duet "Apples," to music by Coldplay.
--Balance, aggressiveness and passivity in relationships are explored in Joanna Rosenthal's "Sextet," which uses music by the Studio Group and Juke Baratone.
--Jesus Renteria reflects on where he has been and where he is going in his solo "Wanderer," set to music by the Tin Hat Trio.

Admission to the performances is $12 for adults, $6 for UI students and youth. Tickets are available in advance from the University Box Office, which has moved back into the Iowa Memorial Union, at 319-335-3041 or 1-800-346-4401. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door.

North Hall, accessible on foot from the Anne Cleary Walkway, is across the pedestrian bridge from free parking in the Hancher lot, and parking is also available right next door in the North Campus ramp at the north end of Madison St.

The Department of Dance is a unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
