Community seminar Nov. 18 to focus on health literacy

Experts from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will discuss "Health Literacy 101: What You Need To Know" at the next "Health For Your Lifetime" seminar from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, 1220 First Ave. in Coralville.

Nearly half of all American adults -- 90 million people -- have difficulty understanding and using health information. Health literacy is not simply the ability to read. It requires a complex group of reading, listening, analytical and decision-making skills, and the ability to apply these skills to health situations.
