POSTPONED: Because of adverse weather conditions on Feb. 17, the discussion with Karl Rove presented by the UI Lecture Committee has been rescheduled. Rove will now speak Sunday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union.
MEDIA ADVISORY: Details for media coverage of Rove event Feb. 17 at UI
The University of Iowa Lecture Committee will present a conversation with Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff and senior advisor to President George W. Bush, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union on the UI campus. Rove will be interviewed on stage by Frank Durham, professor of journalism in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions after the interview.
For media covering the event, here are some guidelines:
--Media interested in covering Rove's speech should contact George McCrory in the University News Service Office at 319-384-0012 or email@example.com by noon Friday, Feb. 15.
--There will be no media availability with Rove in connection with his appearance at the university.
--In accordance with the contract with Rove and his speakers' agency, television and radio journalists and news videographers and photographers may shoot and tape the event for the first five minutes of Rove's remarks and time preceding the interview with Frank Durham. They can then move to a designated media area in the northeast corner of the room, take a seat with the audience or leave the room. Reporters may take notes, but no recording devices may be used after the allotted time.
--Photographers and videographers are asked to check in for a brief meeting at 7 p.m. on Sunday Feb. 17 in the North Room. University staff will have a floor plan and explain where and when media can shoot during the first five minutes.
--Laptops will be allowed, but the IMU Main Lounge does not have direct wireless connectivity.
--A multbox will be available in the media area in the northeast corner of the Main Lounge.
--There is no reserved parking for media in general; however, satellite trucks may park in the front of the IMU on a first-come, first-served basis.
