Brenda Weiler, Kevin BF Burt to perform on 'Java Blend' Sept. 21, 28
Brenda Weiler will perform live as part of the Iowa Public Radio performance series "Java Blend," at noon Friday, Sept. 21, and Kevin BF Burt will play at noon Friday, Sept. 28, both at the Java House, 211 E. Washington St. in downtown Iowa City.
The public is invited to be part of the live audiences for the hour-long shows, which originate from the University of Iowa's radio station WSUI-AM 910.
Raised in Fargo, N.D., Weiler is praised for her pure vocals and personal lyrics. The folk singer-songwriter will introduce "End The Rain," her most personal and brave album, to the Java House. "End The Rain" is influenced by the suicide of Weiler's older sister. Americana UK magazine says the album is a "powerful collection of songs that beautifully articulates a personal journey through loss." The performance will be broadcast on Iowa Public Radio Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7.
Weiler will also be featured on the 10 to 11 a.m. edition of "The Exchange" Friday, Sept. 21, which will be broadcast live from the Java House. She will talk in depth about her sister's suicide and join a discussion with several local suicide prevention experts.
Kevin BF Burt is a soul-inspired blues artist from Coralville. This self-taught musician's music is compared to a range of artists from Bill Withers to B.B King. Burt's smooth, warm vocal presentation is enjoyed by people of all ages. The "Java Blend" performance will be broadcast on Iowa Public Radio Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14.
"Java Blend" broadcast times on WSUI-AM are 7 p.m. Saturdays and 5 p.m. Sundays; check local broadcast times for other Iowa Public Radio stations. To view a full calendar of upcoming "Java Blend" performances and broadcasts, visit http://iowapublicradio.org/programs.php and scroll to "Java Blend."
