Café Scientifique presents free talk on vitamins C, E Sept. 13

"Hype vs. Hope with nutritional antioxidants: Vitamins C & E are now on TV" will be the topic of a free, public talk from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, on the Mezzanine Floor of the Cottage Bakery and Café, 14 S. Linn St. Dr. Garry R. Buettner, Ph.D., professor and assistant director, Free Radical and Radiation Biology Graduate Program in the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology, will speak.

Buettner says that free radicals and antioxidants have attracted a considerable amount of misinformation through their discussion in the popular media. He plans to present information on how antioxidants function and how these vitamins contribute to good health.

The talk is the first to be presented by Café Scientifique of Iowa City during the fall 2007 semester. Sessions are held on the second Thursday of the month from September to May. Café Scientifique of Iowa City is a meeting forum where the public is invited to explore and debate the latest ideas in science, mathematics, medicine and technology.
