Maggie Conroy to perform solo play at Old Capitol Nov. 4

Maggie Conroy will perform "Sailing Into Iowa: Maggie's Museum Show," a solo play that combines the themes of story, memory and museums, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 in the Senate Chamber of the Old Capitol on the University of Iowa campus. The event is free and open to the public.

In this original solo piece, written by Conroy and directed by Michael Sokoloff, Conroy gives an intimate tour of the Senate Chamber and creates an on-stage "museum" of artifacts and stories that have special meaning to her.

Conroy, a playwright, actor and director, received her MFA from the UI Playwrights Workshop in 1994. She has written and performed a variety of solo pieces throughout Iowa City. She directs the yearly event, "Global Express," an evening of short excerpts from works by writers with the UI International Writing Program. She has performed in plays with Riverside Theatre and the UI Theatres.

This program is part of a series of events planned in conjunction with the Old Capitol Museum's year-long exhibit "A Community of Writers: Creative Writing at the University of Iowa," which details the writing programs at the UI. For more information on this exhibit, see
