UI alumnus John Ciofalo will present free lecture Nov. 7

John Ciofalo, an alumnus and a former visiting professor of the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History, will present a lecture on the American magic realist painter Ivan Albright at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Room 116 of Art Building West on the UI campus.

Ciofalo's lecture, "An Ivan Albright Portrait: The Soft Cry of a Soul from its Tomb of Gnarly Flesh," is free and open to the public.

Ciofalo, an independent scholar, taught at the UI from 1999 to 2000. He also taught at Case Western Reserve University; the State University of New York, Albany; and Indiana University. He received his bachelor's degree in art history at the University of Colorado and his master's degree and doctorate from the UI.

He is the author of "The Self Portraits of Francisco Goya," published by Cambridge University Press in 2000, as well as scholarly papers and articles.
