Pharmacy students invite public participation during American Pharmacists Month
The public is invited to participate in free health events, including diabetes screenings, influenza vaccinations, overall health screenings, and a blood drive, thanks to University of Iowa College of Pharmacy students who are celebrating American Pharmacists Month during October. The month-long effort will culminate in a health fair on Friday, Oct. 26, at the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville.
Influenza immunizations will be offered at four different sites and times in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and North Liberty:
--From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at CVS Pharmacy, 2711 Mount Vernon Road SE, Cedar Rapids.
Three diabetes screenings will be held in Iowa City and Coralville:
--From 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Hartig Drug, 701 Mormon Trek Blvd., Iowa City.
Heartburn and bone density screenings, as well as the flu vaccines, will be offered from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Liberty Pharmacy, 555 W. Cherry St., North Liberty.
A blood drive will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at the Banker Student Center in the UI College of Pharmacy.
The public is also welcome to the pharmacy student-led health fair, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville. The event will feature glucose, cholesterol and hypertension (blood pressure) screenings, heartburn awareness education, and poison prevention education.
